Problems ? --- About Our Technology

We are sorry for any problems that you may be having. Please be assured that we are working to resolve them. However we have found that most problems are related to the way our subscribers may have their computers configured.

Please read this entire section including the part about 'bad' cookies

Security Level on Your PC?
Some subscribers have advised us that they could not re-enter the site after subscribing. We worked with them and found that by resetting security to "medium" solved those problems.

Are your aware of our site technology?
To provide you with the best of the Internet we have used the latest technology to construct the "fredsherman.com" website. You should not have problems if you have a current browser and "Enable" your cookies. You may have problems from your office computer; also we are case sensitive see below.

The technology we refer to is this:

Our system REQUIRES that cookies be ‘Enabled.’ Please make that change to your computer system. Cookie fixes are at the bottom of this note. Just continue down this page to them.

Our system REQUIRES that a current version browser be used? Please check to be sure you are using either. (We provide I E FREE.)

Netscape 4.5 or higher?.
Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher?
NOTE: Internet Explorer 6.0 can be a problem if you have only the basic version. You must go back to Microsoft and download the upgrades. The reason is that the government required MSFT to unbundled some software as part of the monopoly lawsuit settlement. The key is that our site uses Java Script and that is not part of the basic IE 6.0
We provide IE FREE.
AOL users should upgrade to a current AOL version. Contact AOL

Please make sure that your browser is correct or change by going back  to our Home page at "www.fredsherman.com" and click on either browser to upgrade to the latest version. They are on the Home page on the left, just below the Fred sings area. Then make sure you download the upgrades including JAVA Script

Here’s how things work:

When you sign up to "fredsherman.com" our server puts a "cookie" on your computer.

A "cookie" is just a registration identification, a small file. The cookie is used during the sign up. When you come back into the site any other time after sign up your computer will be recognized and you will allowed immediate access without going through the LOG ON process.

Should you wish to check the site from some other computer. (e.g. at work if you signed up at home or vice versa; or traveling. Then you may have full access to the site but from a slightly different procedure - you must Log-ON:

- When logging onto "fredsherman.com" from a different computer (than the one you signed up on) you just need to :

- Click on the Log On button on the Home page, then,
- Enter your EMail address (The one you used at original sign-up)
- Enter your Password (The one you used at original sign-up)

You will then have complete access to the site.

We do appreciate your "attempted sign-up" and a message to us that you had a problem. We are primarily financial types and not as good with the technical side of the site- we are learning and your "problem" will allow us to learn one more thing about the technical side of the site's operation.

Handling Cookies

A "cookie" is a small amount of information that a web site copies to your hard disk. A cookie can help a web site identify you the next time you visit. For instance, if you shop for books online, the bookstore's web site might use a cookie to store information about your favorite subjects, and later use that information to recommend particular books.

To control your computer's behavior with respect to cookies:

For Netscape 4.5 or higher
(Note: if you are not on this version you should be; get it free via a link.

1.From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
2.Click the Advanced category.
3.Click one of the radio buttons.

Important: In most cases, "Accept all cookies" is the best choice. The second button means that your computer will not send a cookie to a server that did not originate it.

For Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
(Note: if you are not on this version you should be; get it free from our Home Page via a link. It’s near the Sign up; just click on the appropriate logo to download it free - it will take a few moments.

1.From the Main page, choose Tools
2. Click on Internet Options category.
3.Click on Security category.
4. Go down list to "cookies"; click on Enable.

Case Sensitive?

We are case sensitive so please be consistent with your entering log-on information. Always use caps or always use lower case and remember what you did when you first entered.

We can dig out what you originally did but we must go through 3 fire walls in our own security to get to the exact information you originally entered. You can EMail us if you have problems, it may take us some time to get back to you.

Problems from your office?

If you are attempting to sign-up from your office you may have some difficulty - if your company uses a network server to inter-connect the office computers.

Generally, they are set to not accept cookies and have other fire walls that may prevent you signing up.

That is because we and your company are using technology that protects each of our systems.

Our suggestion: Sign up at home or use a friends individual PC. Then remember your Email address and password - we are case sensitive. Follow directions above for logging on from a different computer.

FAQ

Your site recognizes me as I'm logged in, but when I go to selections it stops recognizing me as logged in.

I entered your site through my office computer and it worked fine. It must be particular to my home computer, any suggestions.

 Solution:

Did you ever get in via your home PC?

Recently we've experienced similar situations - ALL members have NEW Dell computers.

Dell PC come with McAfee virus and firewall protection software.

Solution is to temporarily turnoff the firewall and then logon to the fredsherman.com website. Logons have been successful. This establishes a cookie for recognition purposes.

After the now successful logon, go back and turn on the McAfee firewall.

Also, make sure that the address “ steve@fredsherman.com “ and “info@fredsherman.com “ are in your address book, so that they will not be marked as SPAM or Junk-mail. These is is the address that we will send you emails from, and if your email program thinks it is junk-mail, you will not receive it.

Cookies and firewall issues:
The system looks up your email and password and then sets a cookie on your
machine to let us know that you are logged in. If the cookie can't be set
then you get a Member-Only page that asks you to login again. That means
that we need to be sure that the firewall settings and browser settings
allow this to happen. (this is the most common cause of problems)

Also some popup blockers may cause problems.

Cookies need to be enabled to use our site.

Here's some information that should help:
1. Cookies and firewall issues
Check your settings and make sure that you are allowing cookies for this
site.
More details on enabling cookies are available at:

http://www.learningfolder.com/enablingcookies.htm

2. Stuck Cookies
Sometimes a bad cookie will get "stuck."  The best way to clear up this
problem is to clear the cookies entirely and then restart your machine and
try to log in again.

Details on removing cookies can be found at:

http://www.affiliateshowcase.com/cookies.asp

If you have 'Zone Alarm' you need to go to 'Privacy' and set 'Cookie
Control' 'Ad Blocking' and 'Mobile code' to 'Off'.

Norton and McAfee privacy tools have this same "feature". It is normally
called "Ad Blocking" I've seen more problems with Norton's implementation of
this than any other, but they all have it to some degree.

These are all pretty complex tools and you should take some time to
understand them - if you are going to use them.

3. If none of this works, please do the following.
A. Make sure that your browser is updated to the latest version.
B. Send information on your current browser and operating system to me.
C. Describe exactly what happens when you try to login
D. Send me any error messages that you receive via email.

Hope this helps! Hang in there! We want you as a member!
